Sad Sparkling Eyes

When you come back
You'll find me dreaming
With only half my mind about
what used to be my home.

Yet you'll never be
close enough to discover
the cracks of my make-up,
The clown's weary mask.

I hide behind the ruins
Of ancient bridges connecting hearts
which were burnt down by trusted friends,
Betrayed, bewitched and let down.

Sad sparkling eyes,
With the light of truth
Telling beautiful lies
About who I am
And where I'll go before dawn.

Sad sparkling eyes
Reflecting the stars through each glance at the sky
Revealing fate's charming cruelty
And the vision of a well-known stranger.

Full moon. The river flows quietly
through the deep dark night,
Waiting for danger to arrive
And close a forbidden deal.

Morning comes. The sun starts singing
chasing the rain clouds away.
And I wait for the night.
I wait for the night.

I hide behind the ruins
Of ancient bridges connecting hearts
which were burnt down by trusted friends,
Betrayed, bewitched and let down.

Sad sparkling eyes,
With the light of truth
Telling beautiful lies
About who I am
And where I'll go before dawn.

Sad sparkling eyes.
Charming with the brightness of stars
Not revealing the pain
through the cracks of the mask of a clown.

Who are you, stranger?
To talk to me in my dreams
As if you'd known it all
From the start.

To tell me that my freedom
Was all, you ever wanted
That your name was the same as mine
And my fate followed your design.

I hide behind the ruins
Of ancient bridges connecting hearts
which were burnt down by trusted friends,
Betrayed, bewitched and let down.

Sad sparkling eyes,
With the light of truth
Telling beautiful lies
About who I am
And where I'll go before dawn.

Sad sparkling eyes.
Charming with the brightness of stars
Not revealing the pain
through the cracks of the mask of a clown.
